Marcy Park Grand Opening

Saturday, June 3, 10 am at Marcy Park.

Stop by to hear from park officials, enjoy free donuts and dog treats, and check out the new park amenities, which include a dog park, basketball court, hammocking grove, and path and lighting improvements.

$306,495 is available for Marcy Park Site Improvements (Phase 1) from the 2020 Capital Improvement Program. The Marcy-Holmes Neighborhood Organization has provided a letter of support implement community-supported concept plans in the amount $230,000. The funding is not yet allocated to the project. Improvements will be guided by the applicable plans and recommendations in the East of the River Master Plan.

Extensive outreach was done during the East of the River Master Plan engagement process, which was approved on March 27, 2019 by the Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board (MPRB) of Commissioners. Recommendations specific to Marcy Park include a new multi-generational nature play area, new basketball courts, a dog park, hammocking area, bee lawn, and boulder wall. The plan indicates removal of the existing playground and picnic pavilion. The proposed design envisions the park as a destination for university students and young families by balancing multigenerational play spaces with more passive recreation options.

The East of the River Park Master Plan guides the development, rehabilitation and operation of Northeast and Southeast Minneapolis neighborhood parks over the next 20-30 years, and also guides capital expenditures under the 20-Year Neighborhood Park Plan.
