Construction Closures

East River Parkway

East River Parkway near East River Terrace closures beginning April 27

East River Parkway near the East River Terrace, including pedestrian and bike trails, will be closed as follows:

  • April 27-June 11: The pedestrian trail is closed; pedestrians will be directed to share the bike trail
  • June 12-July 1 (approximate date): Bike trail is closed; bikers will be directed to share the pedestrian trail and asked to dismount their bike
  • June 12-July 1 (approximate date): Parkway closed to vehicles; vehicles will be rerouted to St. Anthony Avenue at East River Terrace, and back to the parkway at Emerald Street SE.

This closure is necessary to accommodate the City of Minneapolis’ work to perform storm sewer construction in the area. The project will consist of new sewer infrastructure installation from East River Terrace to the Mississippi River, and will work its way east through the grass boulevard toward East River Parkway.

The Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board appreciates the public’s patience while public infrastructure is repaired.

Minnehaha Parkway

A section of Minnehaha Parkway is closed through fall 2027 for the City of Minneapolis to rehabilitate the Nicollet Avenue bridge over Minnehaha Creek.

Trails under the bridge will stay open, but they may shift temporarily. Please follow onsite signs and any detours in place.

Westbound parkway traffic is detoured on 50th Street to Lyndale Avenue. Eastbound parkway traffic is detoured along the two-block parkway frontage road spanning Nicollet Avenue.

Strict measures will be in place to keep materials out of Minnehaha Creek during construction, including a platform over the creek to catch debris during demolition and erosion control measures. Some trees will need to be removed for equipment access. Protected areas will be fenced. For every tree removed, two new ones will be planted.
