I am very proud of the Minneapolis Park & Recreation Headquarters as well as the Leonard H. Neiman Sports Complex at Ft. Snelling Sports Complex. The Neiman Sports Complex is a premier state-of-the-art athletic complex that is named for the late MPRB Commissioner Leonard H. Neiman who was instrumental in my coaching involvement. We look forward to continuing our lake water quality program, such as the Calhoun and Nokomis wetlands and completion of the work on the Minnehaha Creek trail corridor.
In 2003, the Minneapolis Park & Recreation Board moved into its first owned headquarters building, located at 2117 West River Road in North Minneapolis. This important acquisition demonstrates our investment in future riverfront development called for in the Upper Mississippi Master Plan and is close to the start of one of the largest river systems in the world. The best part of the four-acre acquisition is that the rehabilitated building costs less annually to occupy than the rent and parking costs incurred previously in downtown Minneapolis.
BACKGROUND
Life-long resident of Minneapolis. I grew up and played in the parks, worked as a lifeguard for the MPRB and still use and enjoy parks today. I have coached youth softball, baseball, basketball volleyball and soccer over the last 35 years (including baseball and softball every spring since 1975). I have coached over 1,000 different kids throughout that time, including numerous teams for female athletes.
